Here is Grandpa using it while he is in dialysis. He told me tonight that he has already read the Book of Mormon twice since they got the Ipad! How many of you iPad users can say that?!!

Grandma tries to sneak in her time on the iPad as well, but from the looks of the photo she has to do it before sunrise!

So, all you iPad, iPod and iPhone users, get your facetime out and give Grandma and Grandpa a call!

I started mowing the lawn today and Dad decided he wanted to see if he could remember how to run the mower. Guess what... he can. He saved the trees and lilac bushes for me.
Next I will work on getting him to pull weeds in the garden or pick raspberries! Wish Me LUCK!!!!

OK I got the rest of the pictures to put on here. This is my favorite one. Look close at the candles on his dinner. Jake went shopping while he was at Journeys that morning. So we had the waitress put them on his dinner! Good job Jake! He is opening his sugar free candies.

Today was a special day for Dad! It's his 80th Birthday! He wasn't very excited to turn 80. But he had a great day anyway. He got several phone calls from families and a bucket load of birthday cards from his family. He even got some grandkid singing to him. He got a kick out of the cards. Thanks Monique that was a way fun idea. These are a few pictures of him opening some cards and gifts while he was waiting for dinner. I was informed that I had this picture in here twice. I say oh well! At least one person looked at the blog.

He didn't want any kind of celebration or party so we decided to take him out to dinner and invited everyone around here to go with us. We had a good time and lots of visiting.
This the mug that Monique and Caitlin gave him. Of course it had their picture all over it.

We had a fun night and glad dad had a birthday so we could get together and celebrate what a great dad and grandpa and great grandpa we all have. We have all learned much from him and the good example he is to all of us. We wish all of you were here to be with him today but we tried to fill in for you. But just think, in 41 days (yes we are counting the days) you can all tell him HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY in person.

As most of us were playing and working this weekend, Leanna was at a quilt fair winning a RED RIBBON on 1 of the 4 quilts she entered. This is the 1st time (I think) that she has won a ribbon. The quilts were beautiful. There was lots there but of course we liked hers the best. This one red, white and black one is the winner!

This is the red ribbon.This orange, yellow and brown one is my favorite one. It looks like a flame.
I can't even imagine cutting and sewing these

little pieces in the right order. Forget it I
can't even pick out two colors to put together
into a quilt. (I can do a levi or leftover patch
work ones) .

The two below are the other quilts she entered. Again little tiny pieces of fabric. I hope she had a good seam ripper! She probably didn't need one.

Some of you are lucky enough to have a quilt by the award winner. The rest of us will just admire them. We all know that when Leanna wants to learn how to do something whether it be cake decorating, crocheting, foofoo (she is queen of foofoo), or anything she does, she ends up with beautiful results. She even made her apron in the pictures! She thinks she needs to quit her day job and make quilts full time. I agree with her. We are proud of you and your hard work, and love you tons!

Brigham Award

Our one and only Jessie Malia Crook was nominated this year for the Brigham Award at BYU. Here is how BYU describes this award...

Each year, the Brigham Awards seek to recognize five BYU students, faculty, or staff for their genuine commitment, example, and contributions to others throughout the world and/or the BYU community. The awards will be given to those who demonstrate consistent qualities of selflessness, charity, and service to others.

Julie and I were lucky enough to be her family when she received the award. It was a fun day and we enjoyed every minute of it.

As they presented the award to her they read a little bit of what she was being recognized for.... I cant remember ALL of it but it was for her great service in local food drives and out reach programs in the area.

Fun in the Sun

Merry Christmas to the Case Family..........For Christmas the Cases got airline tickets to Arizona, they decided that I needed to tag along with them.

(I told Merodene No several times. But we know she doesn't listen to me some times!) So last week we flew to Arizona and spent the week there. We drove from one side of Phoenix to the other several times, with the help of Betty!. Jake loved the trip and so did the rest of us. We spent every day with family.

Here is Jake ready to get there. He had a stiff neck from looking out the window the entire way.

We spent one day with Tyler. We toke a tour of the baseball stadium. Jake found another place for the Crook Reunion....the pool at the ball field. We had a fun time with Tyler.

Jake is in the lounge chair by the pool. He had this picture taken just for Grandpa cause this is Grandpa's usual position when he is in Arizona.

Merodene was in charge of this activity. Notice we are o utside and the sun is shinning. We played at the park while Bruce flew real airplanes. (Thanks to Lori's brother in law John)

We got all the family together (even Mark) for dinner one night. We sat around visiting until the resturant was ready to close. It was fun just being together for a few hours. Thanks Grandpa for dinner!

We had a great time with Jim, Lori & family. They kept us entertained and fed us too much. This was taken the last time we saw them. It was hard for us to say goodbye. We wanted to bring them back with us. But we only had carry-on luggage, instead we brought oranges.

We had a great time in Arizona. Thank you All the Arizona Families for spending time with us. The Cases have almost got their trip planned for next year. (Jake is thinking this year). Can't wait til the Crook Reunion to see everyone!

Update on Becky

This is just to update eveyone on Becky's latest venture. She had reconstruction of her ACL and other things cleaned up. (She has pictures) So Merinda and I took a few days off and went down to wait/spoil her. It was perfect timing for all of us. She did really good with the surgery. We kept her on the couch all day then she would hobble up stairs to her bed at night. By the second day she realized that she didn't like the pain meds or was it dinner that came up? But she stopped the pain meds, Dad tried to tell her she wouldn't like them. Sundance kept us busy...those big brown expressive eyes made it so she got what ever she wanted and then some.

Here is Becky hobbling down the stairs. She felt good enough to wash her hair! She has a huge brace on her leg so she can't bend her knee and all she wants to do is curl up on her bed. Not today!Merinda was the happy chef. She would jump up fix a yummy meal everytime Becky mentioned food or advil. Between meals she helped Becky watch TV and was at Becky's beck and call all day.

I couldn't cook and I couldn't watch TV so Sundance and I hung out outside in the yard. I pulled weeds and cut down bushes (JayR cut the trees down) and collected the snails for dinner, Merinda refused to cook them up for Becky. She used to like them with a little butter and garlic salt. I needed kids there to put the salt on them, instead I just dumped them in the trash. Slimmy things.

Becky thinks she will get the big brace off on Tuesday and get a smaller one. Then she is going to go home and shower then curl up on her bed, if she can bend her knee. I know she is thankful for everyone thoughts and prayers and support, visits, rides, phone calls, texts..... But we are glad she is doing getting along great. She can hardly wait for jump rope contest at the Crook Reunion!!!!!

I found a few items laying around after everyone left on Saturday. If any of these look familar please let me know, if not, they will be white elephant gifts for next year (or I will put the hoodies in my trailer). I know the bag is Ashtynn's (it has her name on it), and the tan colored string looks like it came from Nolin's hat that the kids were throwing around, but the other things I am not too sure of. So, look close....... (By the way, I tossed the soda....but was still wondering who left it in the refrigerator)

Relay for Life 2010

This year's Relay for Life event started out a little "-iffy". We got rained on until about 11pm on Friday but it finally stopped. I think it was because we started singing the Rain, Rain Go Away song.

Jake helped keeps us following the rules.... his favorite was rule #3. If you dont know what rule #3 is or can't remember it you will have to ask him.

Thanks to everyone who particpated this year. It's always a little crazy but a lot of fun.

We finally got Spring here.... Or so we thought. The apple trees are in full bloom and buzzing with honeybees. The grass is green. The dandilions are plentiful.

The Tulips are all opened as well as the pansies. It is so good to see color.

We are tired of winter. Birds are singing everywhere. Just driving around seeing the flowering trees and green grass makes us feel better and happier.

Then Saturday afternoon we were reminded one again where we live! The weather can and will change in a minute. The wind was blowing so hard that the snow came in waves (I didn't add the pictures of the waves) and sideways. We just turned the furnace up and pulled the blanket back around us.

It didn't last very long but it was snow. The little birds at the feeder weren't very happy about it either.

Maybe we will have a warmer week next week, the garden needs to get planted.

No we won't hold our breathe but we can dream. Right?

Today's Lesson

Today's lesson was learning how to drive dad's lawn mower. Terena got on it and went in circles for the entire back lawn. She did pretty darn good!!! for a beginner!! According to the book..you only get one lesson...then you're on your own!!! Good luck!!! By the time she got to the side lawn she was a PRO!!

It was a sunny day, but the wind was blowing so it was pretty chilly!! Don't you think she did good!!!

We have noticed a new family in the neighborhood. This new family built their new home and moved in recently. Becky and I went over to visit them today but they turned their backs on us. Not real friendly. We will have to work on that. Maybe we need to take them a treat to let them know we are OK.They built by Archie Lurus home. We can see their home from our front porch. Keeps life interesting around here.

Looking for the pieces--to puzzle or mind!

At the reunion last summer someone brought a white elephant gift that has caused Grandma much stress! It was a puzzle of a beautiful Greg Olsen painting but.... she lost sleep, hair, appetite, her mental state was in question too. Grandpa and I suffered greatly because of this puzzle! She would throw her hands up in the air and walked away from it several times a day while pulling on her hair. Threatened to throw it away. Never wanted to see it again. Then a little while later she was sitting back down to it. She wished Scott lived closer so he could help with it. This puzzle wasn't going to get the best of her she said.... As you can see Grandpa would sit and encourage her to keep going. But hurry up.... Finally the last available piece was put in. Notice the final pieces were outline pieces. What a bugger. Yes it is missing 3 pieces so whoever brought it can now send those pieces... Oh wait....Grandma already threw the puzzle away, so never mind. She never wants to put it together again. We will never look at this painting the same!!!

Christmas in Iona

Welcome Home Elder Dial!!!!

Friday afternoon a bunch of us went to the local airport to welcome Elder Dial home! His family was well prepared. They came with signs and balloons and lots of hugs!!! The plane even came early. They thought he would be the first one off the plane but he let a few others off before him.Somehow Merinda got the first hug.... and it was lots of hugs from there.. Dad

The Dial's had a get together Saturday night at their church to have sandwiches and visit with Tyrell. Then he reported his mission today. He did an awesome job and Merinda, Sarah, Holly and Eli did a musical number for Sacrament meeting.

We really dont need an excuse to go out to eat but over the past couple of days we used Grandma's and Sarah's birthday as a good excuse to go out.

Yesterday we grabbed both of them and went to lunch at Perkin's to celebrate their birthdays. We had a great time!

Grandma got her favorite.... German Chocolate Cake! Grandpa, Terena, Jake and I (with a little help from Sundance) sang happy birthday to the very best of our ability!

I dont think anything needs to be said about this "cheesey" picture!

Here's the latest on the grass. It is starting to look like grass!! Just thought you'd like to see the progress!! These were just taken a few minutes ago. It's a beautiful day today!!! (Not to hot, not to cool)! There are a few weeds here and there, but that's the least of our worries!! (There's spray for that!!)

Thought you'd all like to see that the grass is actually growing. These are pictures from this morning. The sprinkler system is working awesome!! The lawn around the house is so pretty and green all the time....and nobody had to drag a hose around!! Grandpa and Grandma are happy about that!!Pictures don't do it justice...it's much more greener in real life!! It's so pretty!!! The Killdeer birds are loving it too!!! We are loving to watch it grow!!

I didn't want to show you pictures of all the dog tracks....it would make those who raked mad!!! But, there are a ton of paw prints (holes).

First things first....we survived! Here we are watching the grass growing!

Okay, so here is the next step in the fun at Grandpa's house. JayR heard how much fun we were having last week so he came for a week to get in on the action. He trimmed the apple trees more. Went to the dump enough times that the lady and the dump recognized him. See how much fun he started out having. Little did he know Bruce was breaking him in slowly. After more raking, yes Nolin and Janet we raked that dirt at least 10 more times after you did. Merodene would probably say it was more than 10. Every time we turned around JayR was saying, "Grab that rake and let's rake it this way now!" And guess what! WE DID!!!! Finally we got the seed so JayR spread it and yes We Raked It Again!

After complaining about raking so much, JayR filled this roller with water and said, "Okay then push this roller. And roll we did. Merodene wanted this picture put here so you could see the LOOK on her face. She wasn't singing either. She wanted to be in the house making bread and doing easy work. She did that in the afternoon.

After we rolled it, Grandpa and Grandma came through again this week with the steak for the workers. Only thing different was the steaks got bigger!!! We tried a few T-Bone steaks this time with the same kind as last week. Can you see the difference Travis?

And here is the final project! And yes it all works wornderful. Doesn't it look nice. Lots of sweat went into getting this done. Grandpa and Grandma say "Thank you to all who have taken off work to work so hard to get it done. They really appreciate it.

Becky heard how much fun it was and she came for a few days. She must want a steak too.

Fun at Grandpa's house?????

Are we having fun yet? But then who said this was going to be a fun weekend at Grandpa's house? The workers met Friday to start the fun. Val is on the roto-tiller. He looked like Pigpen from Peanuts. See if you can see the scarf around his mouth, the safety glasses on. We decided he would make a good farmer.

This is his back after he got off. I gave him a pat on the back and this is what it looked like. He looked like he was having a little too much fun in the dirt soooo.......

Everyone else decided to join him on the tractor... Now are we all having fun???

The kids took a break while waiting for the digger machine to come. All these pipe where scheduled to go underground by dark on Friday. And they were. Thanks to a hard working crew. It was only the beginning.... Little did we know what was ahead of us.

We are all still smiling...

We aren't smiling now!!!!! Did you notice the girls weren't on the tractor. It was "take my picture so there is proof that I was working here." We learned how different rakes work. We can tell the difference between rocks and dirt clods. We learned we really don't like weeds! Shaun and I took a truck load of weeds to the dump and it took us 20 minutes to unload it!!!

We even tried to bury our tools so we could stop working. But it didn't help. We were told to grab another tool.

Work was stopped long enough to eat steak. Grandpa grilled steak for all and yes Grandpa can grill a mean steak. It gave everyone enough energy to continue working.

It finally got dark and everyone went to bed with Advil!!!

Saturday: The detail work began and the girls went shopping... Yes the boys all worked hard in the hot sun all day. They even had the missionaries help for a little while. Kodi worked all day on his birthday. If they weren't working on the sprinklers they were trimming trees, replacing shingles, weeding and rototiller (little one) in the garden and other odd jobs.

I didn't get out to the west end to take pictures of the guys working out there. I was afraid I would be in the way or they might put me to work. But trust me, they were working hard and got alot done. It was a work til you drop weekend. Thanks to everyone for coming to work for the weekend. Alot of work was done. Grandpa appreciates all you and the hard work you did. He will keep grilling the steaks for those who want to work for him. It's won't be done for a while. JayR is on the work schedule this week....

Let the party begin! For the past 364 days we have all waited for this day!! And finally it came. Yes we were excited to get together again. Even if I had to pull a few extra weeds. It was fun to have it at Grandpa and Grandma's home. We are never all here at the same time. Doesn't Grandma look excited???

Here is Bruce putting air in the big ball. Little did he know it would not stop rolling for several days. Everyone had a blast rolling or being rolled in it. Several of the grandkids taking a break from the fun for a group pictures.

The tent puter uppers worked up a sweat. So they took a break and stood in the cool water of the pool. They earned a cold glass of lemonade. I don't think they were allowed to go down the slide yet.

It was a few days we could pretty much do what we wanted. We didn't have to brush our teeth...

We could wear our pretty new dresses..... and do our hair.... or not.

We could eat what we wanted and how we wanted too... And it was OK. it all tasted yummy.

Some could wear their swimsuits all day... Others, we are glad did not even get their suits on... and we all say THANK YOU!!!

We just look cute in anything we have on. Still smiling!!!

This looks like too much effort to do on vacation... I'll just watch you do it. (I have a good picture of Maddy doing this also.)

Then we went to the jump rope. Who's idea was this???? The adults tried to relive their childhoods. How fast did those jump rope songs come back? The kids watched in amazement waiting for a turn themselves. Lori was pretty good. (She's still young)

Adam even jump roped....he did pretty good too.

Thank you Shereen & Brent and family and Scott & Janice and family for all your efforts in planning our reunion.. We had a great time, visiting, playing, eating, playing in the water and ball, crafting, playing whiffle ball, playing Tinker Bell and Werwolf, fireworks......We had a great time. But we really missed Scott, Janice, Josh, Jessie, Cameron and Jeremey!
JUST THINK...IT'S LESS THAN 365 DAYS TIL WE DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN.....We can hardly wait...right Jake???

LOST & FOUND

Here are the items that were left at the reunion! If you recognize any of these, please notify the home owners! Also, missing are 2 blue lawn chairs. They have Autoliv on the back rest. They belong to the Mantua people. They are very sad with the loss, so please check your chairs..... Only one casualty (so far). Tent peg into the sprinkler line! All is good now. The lawns are recovering. Dad has had his sprinkler on 24/7 and it is starting to perk up a bit. The swimming pool circle is recovering!!! The tent city..........thought it was a crop circle sighting!!

We hope you're all recovering and planning for next year! (I know Jake is). Sorry, Jan, but I didn't know anything about the cheeseballs!! Maybe it's a sign!!

We have been trying to get the yards ready for the upcoming reunion but.... This is what the sky looks like daily. Usually darker, it isn't raining in this picture.

Then the next thing we see out the kitchen window is rain....yes that is Longmore's home. This is what it looks like several times a day. We are learning that umbrellas can be used for something besides an item in the trunk of our cars.

After the rain stops we have pretty green grass. Grandpa goes out and mows the lawn between rain storms. We haven't had to move the sprinklers around the past 2 weeks.
This is what happens when we get lots of rain. This is a weed. I like to call it a shade tree in my window well, approx 4 ft deep. It is very healthy and grows a couple inches a day. Grandpa thinks I should harvest it for firewood.

The toadstools love the wet weather too. They are growing well also. These are coming up where there are tree stumps. They look like roasted marshmellows.

The grass is green and the flowers are planted and would really like to see the sunshine for a few days so they could grow. The garden is up and looking good. But once the sun comes out the carpet of little weeds will grow into Big weeds. Right now it is too muddy to do any gardening. So we may have a new activity at the reunion. Weeding pulling contest!!!!

The sun is suppose to start coming out this week... BRING IT ON!!!

A few weeks ago, Mark received his bachelors degree from Weber State. We realize that he still has more school to go but we wanted to celebrate his accomplishment!

We ordered pizza and just hung out at the Bartschi's... we enjoyed the pizza and the company!

For those of you who couldn't make it, we missed you but Mark informed us that he'll have another graudation in a couple of years.

Congratulations, Mark!! We are all very proud of you and are glad that you are part of our family!

We just wanted you all to see what your big sister has been up to for the past few weeks. She has been making jumpers for little girls for the Humanitarin Room (about 18 or so). She spends many hours donating her time and talents to help the less fortunate. She is a GREAT example for all of us!! Just so you know, according to Journee they make you jump really high!!!

This is Dad's new therapy. He has done so good on his other therapy work that he has now graduated to outside activities. (When the wind isn't blowing.) He is learning how to use it. The therapy is trying to get on and off it! It sure cuts the grass nice. We think he likes it.

Just wanted you to know that Jake's head is healing fine. Dr. Bruce took the staples out and Jake picked at the scabs!! Now we just need the hair to grow back. We can see a few coming, but it might take a while for it all to come back in. Anyway, he is doing fine!!!

We just wanted to introduce you all to the newest resident at the Rehab Center. Actually, I don't think any introduction is necessary. Pictures speak a thousand words!! (7 staples, and multiple abrasions on face and hands). After an ambulance ride and a little Valium...things were better! His admission papers are still pending, but movies and treats have been offered!! We'll see how dependable this staff is!! We're hoping for a good nights sleep and a lazy day tomorrow!!

WELCOME........ We didn't plan it, but we decided that we are a rehab facility. We at this rehab center want all who come to feel welcome.... we are open in all weather. This is the weather conditions this week as we tell you about our facility........Trust me, it's a saga...

At the Iona Rehab Center we have all the equipment that will be needed for rehabilitation of anyone in need. Also included but not pictured below are stairs to climb, bike to ride to nowhere. TV in several rooms with several remote controls, snow to shovel, garbage to be taken out, floors to mop and vaccum and many other options for therapy. We even had a port-a-potty put in my car on accident but we gave it to the rightful owner.

Upon entering our facility each our of rehabees are given a plastic mug that makes water taste yuky just to remind them that a cold GLASS of Iona water is good for their recovery. (Dad loves these mugs). Notice they are in the trunk of the car on their way to D.I. Our current and longest rehabee is Grandpa. He continues to improve. He can get up during the night by himself so the staff can get some much needed rest. Doesn't his knee look good. He will pull his pant leg UP for anyone who wants to see it. Journee asks him all the time to see his leg.

Scott is our most recent rehabee. These pictures are shortly after his arrival. The Glass of milk was washing down his first meal, homemade rolls and frozen strawberry jam. It worked a miracle, (or he didn't like our facility) soon after eating this he booked his flight to Washington. Hum, we want to think it made him better. Surely he was enjoying his stay with us. He got along very well with our other rehabee. It's amazing how much he improved once he got out of the hospital. Love those Homer Simpson p.j.'s. Janice wouldn't let him wear them on the plane.

We do have a comfortable recyler for each rehabee:

Jake provided the call button (gun). So yes the staff responds quickly to all rehabees. Thank you Jake!

We prepare and serve a few balanced meals. We can adjust meals for individuals special diets, as you can see. We always have the best interest of the each rehabee in mind while preparing these meals. Do you see any zucchini???? Me neither.

We have a friendly dinning area where we encourage all rehabees to sit for all meals. To enjoy the company of each other. This is a time to compare ailments and treatment. Too long sitting here is not encouraged because they may start to complain about the facility and caregivers. This is after a breakfast of Shalese's orange rolls!

We also encourage other family members to come to the dinning area to dine with the rehabees. This is to encourage the rehabees to eat what is placed before them and not ask for more. However we have been know to serve a late evening chocolate banana millk shake to those rehabees who are kind and appreciate the caregivers.

It is always a great day when a rehabee can feel good enough to travel to their home for further recovery and therapy. Guess which one of these rehabees is headed home today!!!

Give up??? It's Scott !! We transported him and his wife (that would be Janice) to the local airport. We kept their car here and will get it to them soon. We gave them hugs and sent them on their way. It's amazing how much we get attached to these rehabees. By the time I got this blogged he was home. The staff is not used to blogging. (we don't have time)

STAFF PICTURE WAS SUPPOSE TO GO HERE!!!!!!!!

Did you notice there was no pictures of the "staff"? That's because they are so busy all the time the camera can't catch them. And there is too many to count. But we want to THANK all who have helped with Grandpa and Scott. You may think you haven't helped but you have no idea how much a phone call, email, text, ride, meals, errand, listening ear, scheduling, has helped all of us here. We are glad they are both on the mend. But they can both use a phone call or email to check up on them. THANKS FOR YOUR PRAYERS!!!!!

Update on the two rehabees: Dad's nurse is done with him, the physical therapist will come for a while longer. The final tape came off the incision as noted above. He walked into the hospital to see Scott a couple of times.

Scott: Came to this facility less than 24 hrs ago. We visited with him, fed him, visisted with him, tucked him into a warm bed. This morning when he woke up he was able to squeeze our hand, it is slight but it is improving. Yesterday he couldn't do it. His speech is even better today. He will continue his therapy when he gets home. Call him and let him practice speaking. (Like he enjoys speaking anyway).

James was just wondering if somebody wanted to come and play at our house? Doesn't this look like so much fun!!

It's pretty nasty looking in real life. We took him to the dr. and I think the dr. was a little miffed. She brought in another dr. to look at him and they agreed together that they thought it was just viral related and should go away in a few days. He isn't supposed to be contagious anymore but can you imagine taking your kid out in public like that! I would be cursing the mother who took their child out with that face! We kind of think it looks life fifths disease but it didn't start on his face first, it started on the trunk of his body! If anybody has any other clues let us know! We've had guesses from measles to scarlet fever to fifths disease and everything in between but he doesn't seem to fit the bill, exactly, to any of them! Wish us good luck!!!

Well just so you know how important this tomato is, it is the last tomato from our garden this year. Yes it lasted until December 5th... Pretty good for us.

And this is Grandma slicing this last tomato for breakfast... We had them on top of our scrabbled eggs. We ate them very slowly thinking maybe we could make it last til Dec. 6th. But nope! It's gone. Now we have to wait until next August for a real tomato.

Happy 55th Wedding Anniversary

Fifty-five years ago, November 20, 1953, this happy couple was married in the Idaho Falls Temple. Little did they know what layed ahead of them. Eight moves, 12 children, 35 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, several cows, lots of chickens, and many bum lambs later....here they are.

We are very proud of our parents. They are wonderful examples to all of us children. We are very blessed to be their children. We all have many memories of our childhood. As you read this blog, we hope you'll share some of your memories here. Some of them might include, baby calves spending the night in the kitchen, or staying up half the night to cut up the recently butchered beef--then eating a nice juicy steak, or picking rocks out of the road on Thanksgiving Day, or those wonderful Family Home Evenings that we all were so happy to participate in (jk), or just washing those piles of dishes after each meal.

We are all better people because of the lessons we have learned over the years from our parents. We all pray that we can teach our children and grandchildren the many lessons we've learned.

JayR and Bonnie came up for a few days, they went to Yellowstone for a couple of days. Then JayR helped Dad around here on Saturday with odds and ends. One job JayR did was take down the hornets nest. You can see how big it is compare to a small apple.
You have heard of watching paint dry, well here we are watching cement dry. We let them watch it.
Dad was glad to have it done. Other odd jobs got done too, but didn't find the leak in the shower!! It wasn't for not looking either.

Bonnie and Terena picked MORE apples. Sorry no pictures of that but we did eat the apple crisp that Grandma made afterwards. Thanks JayR and Bonnie for coming and helping us out it was fun to have you here.

Yellowstone National Park

Terena and I spent a couple of days in Yellowstone and had a great time. It is such a beautiful place. It was a bit nippy (32 degrees this morning) but warmed up nicely during the day.

Well it is that time of year. The apples are ready and there are two trees fully loaded. Our good neighbor (Merodene) came over and helped me pick a FEW of them. She wants to make pie filling. However there will be plenty left over if someone wants some.
Here's all the apples that we picked this morning between rain storms. We ran out of buckets. So bring your own bucket. Come quickly.

Mother washed a bucket of them and then Dad peeled/cored/cut them up and put them in the dehydrater with cinnamon and sugar on them to dry. They smell good on the kitchen table.

Grandpa was walking by a tree after a big wind storm when he looked up and this is what he saw.

It is really big maybe 8 -10 inches in diameter. Grandpa is already talking about how we can get it down. chemicals, wait until it freezes, attach after dark. In the past the shop vaccum has been used for hornet nests. Anyone want to take a shot at it. I will take another picture/video when it is coming down.

Here are the latest pictures of the floor before it was covered. I was gone for a few minutes and Auntie Merodene gave the WY Crooks each a marker and told them to have at it. I just can't leave her in charge. Here are the painters, calkers, sanders, primers and cheaper workers... Thanks to Janet, Shereen (she did a couple of swips with the roller), Rachel and Merodene. We couldn't have done it without you. I did paint too but I was in charge of pictures.

Just so you realize how important a shop vac is.... check out it's responsibilities. It was even around for clean up after the carpet was down. It is now back in it corner of the garage. No home should be without one.

Here are a few of the almost done pictures. It is looking really nice. Theye put the mirror in today. Just a few odds and ends to do. Then the big move back in. Mother says YEAH!!

The Project Continues

Well here it is: an update of the basement...it is getting closer. We have more things to do. Like paint, carpet, caulk around shower, mirror and more but it is getting there. Yes the shop vaccum is still in the room. It will be the last item out. I just didn't include a picture of it tonight.

This is the shower. It does have a door on it now, but it looks nice.

The new fixtures... the mirror isn't up yet. Bruce thought a hole in the floor would work fine..I did overrule him on that one.

This weekend we had a primer party. We started this party about 10:00 pm Friday night. It was a big girls activity. Those involved were Merodene, Janet, Rachel and me. (Janet just happened to show up for the weekend and she brought work clothes...bet she doesn't do that again.) Janet felt really good because she was tall enough to reach the ceiling to paint...

Rachel painted the closet on her backside so we let her stretch out and do ceiling too.

We were all in the bathroom with the door shut. 3 painting and 1 holding the light. Everyone in the house was asleep (not talking Dad and Val). We were getting a little slap happy and kind of loud. But we didn't wake anyone up!!! By the time we got cleaned up it was 1:00 AM. It didn't look too bad the morning after. Pancakes and sauages were just a few hours away.

Jessie was here for a few days after the reunion... Apparently she got really bored...because she wrote on ceiling in the bedroom..
She even got Jake to be a partner in the crime. He wrote on the walls too.

So Grandma said "Let's tear down!" So before she changed her mind the job was started. The "boys" bedroom and the bathroom are under re-construction.. Grandpa had a big window put in first (picture later). This is the tile in the bathroom. I went to work one morning and by the time I got home from work that night Bruce had the bedroom down to the cement walls. So no pictures.
Bruce got the bedroom all framed in. Notice the vaccum is back. It was on the job before he first wall came down. I think I have more pictures of the vaccum in my files than I have of some family members.

Then the walls of the bathroom with it fixtures came out... Bruce and Kodi did the demolition there. They pulled, pounded, tugged and threw with a lot of sweat to clean it out. It's too late if you wanted to say good bye to it. They got a good laugh over the messages that were written on the sheetrock. Apparently we didn't have paper in our home when we were young.

This is a view of the rooms all bare....

Well that is all the pictures for now.... It is closer to being done than it looks but I need to update some pictures. The sheetrock is up and texured. The fixtures in the bathroom are usable if you don't mind the door being open. Within the next 2-3 wks it should be close to being completed.

As Mother and I were pulling "stuff" out of the bedroom prior to demolition, we came across a stack of albums. I thought most would remember these 3 albums. We found a couple of 45's out with Becky's name ALL over them. (I guess they were hers or she thought they were her's)
So I called Becky to see if she would like them now. She said to hang up and throw them all in the garbage, I was so surprised. They did have her name on them. So I started to sing some Partridge Family songs thinking she would want them kept. But oh no, she immediately said. "I can't believe that I am even having this conversation with you, just hang up and throw them away!!!!" Sorry Becky I haven't done it yet.

We listened to this album so much that it is worn out. We got this one from Grandma Rula.

We learned a lot of Primary songs listening to the Three D's over and over and over. Dearest Children, Give Said the Little Stream.....

Doesn't this make you want to start singing. You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer.......

This was probably the 1st album that we ever had.

We didn't find any Jethro Tull or The Boss, but did find some Partridge Family, Marie Osmond, Carpenters, Chicago. And Becky's Speedy Gonzales and Popeye!

Relay for Life was last night and it turned out great! We had 20 "walkers" with a bunch of support walkers that helped us through the night. We made approximately $2300 for the American Cancer Society... GREAT JOB everyone!!!

Here's a little of what went on..... (remember I stayed awake all night and have only slept about 3 hours today so I may get a couple of things confused). The event began Friday evening at 6pm and went to Saturday morning and one member of our team had to be walking all the time.

One of the first activities we had was Survivor Walk. This was for all cancer survivors. My friend Meagon's husband Jason Palmer is a cancer survivor and was able to join the event. Thank you so much Palmers for joining us for the evening...(and all night Meagon!).

Here's Julie walking her survivor lap. She had a great cheering section. We are so glad that Julie is cancer free and that we were able to celebate her fight against cancer as as family. Julie .... we love you and are so glad that you are part of our family.

Spring Flowers

After having rain clouds like this for days and weeks, this is the kind of flowers that we got!
Yes, the dandelions were plentiful. But ....

...the lilacs are beautiful! I talked Grandma into standing by them for a picture. We just want to sit outside and enjoy them. We can't get enough of their fragrance.
The bushes are just loaded with blossoms and with the cool weather (50ish) they are lasting a long time.

Relay for Life

I think I've talked to everyone about the Relay for Life but if I haven't I apologize.

It's time to get started raising money and making plans. Here are a few more details and action items for you.

The event is July 18th and 19th (Friday night) at Pioneer Park in Brigham City. Make sure it's on your calendars.
We would like the entire family to help raise money and are encouraging the women in the family to be the ones to walk on the 18th. Staying up all night... what could be more fun?!
I need everyone that will be participating in the event to register. You can either do it online at http://events.cancer.org/rflboxderut or send me an email and I will make sure you get registered. If you register online... select join a team. I have created a team called the Crook Family.
If you can not participate with us you can still donate money either using the link above or send your money to me.
Email me your ideas for raising money and I'll start posting the ideas on the blog so we can help each other.
We have the option of selling items (food, crafts, popsicles, etc.) at the event and all proceeds will go the Relay for Life. So, let's hear your ideas.
For all of you that live far away... we would love to have you join us but understand if you can't make it.

Grandma thinks it is summer! She was the first one in town to hang her washing on the line, in the snow no less.

This is when we went to Lyman to ordain Travis a teacher. It was nice to visit them and spend a few hours with them. Val even cooked dinner for us. We had a lot of fun. It snowed 4 inches over night to come home in.

We had a nice Valentine's Day Dinner tonight. Terena and Merodene spent all day cooking it. It was soooo delicious. The table was set so pretty, candles and the whole bit. We even brought out the "nice" dishes. This is a sample of our dinner! Doesn't it look yummy???

Dessert was homemade coconut balls. They melted in our mouths!

As you can see, there wasn't enough leftover for anyone! Bones....that's all there was!

This week has been full of ups and downs. We had a baptizm on Saturday that was pretty awesome. The spirit was so strong, and it really made me greatful to of had the gospel in my life. I know that is why I´m on a mission is to help others come unto Christ and change their lifes. This week has been another stresser about the language, but that´s not new. I´m dealing with it. We were having a rough day, and all our citas had fallen through when Hma. Johnson was like let´s try this house again. So we did. The family was home, and we were able to get in and teach the Mother and daughter. The lesson was awesome, the spirit was strong, and I was able to express myself, and bear my simple testimony. We are really excited about this family. I know the Lord prepares a way for us to teach and find those that really want to hear the gospel. This is his work, and I love it.

Heating the Hibernation Den

Crook's Hibernation Den

This is where the "Crook's" hibernate in the winter. Can you blame them. It is so cold. Today was pretty blue sky...but don't let that fool you...it is only 18 degrees. As you can see, the newspaper box is almost covered.

These are icicles that are hanging off from Aunt Leanna's work. We thought the Arizona girls would enjoy seeing these HUGE icicles. (compare them to the door below..then you can see how big they really are).

It's Christmas

Here are a few pictures of Christmas in Iona. This is Christmas eve, everyone was leaving to go to their own homes after an awesome Family Home Evening with the Dial family performers.
Dad needs help digging the truck out so he can go to the dump! Anyone want to help?
As you can see the traffic is not running in Iona, so Grandpa has to walk to the neighbors in the snow and ice and cold.
Mother was excited to open gifts for her new family room. She said it is a total family room now with all the decorations that she recieved from family member. She loved them all.
We hope everyone had a Merry Christmas!!! Cause we did!

Temple Square

Tonight the Lambrights and the Crooks came and we all wandered around temple square. It was so cold, but I think we all survived.... or did we, Julie?

Shaun will be 16

Just a short note to let everyone know that Shaun will turn 16 on the 12th. He will be ordained a priest on the 16th of Dec. Our church starts at 9:00 with priesthood meeting. Sacrament meeting starts at 10:50.
In conjunction with his 16th birthday I asked him if there were any girls that were excited to see him turn 16. He paused a short second and replied "All of them."

He still doesn't have his drivers Lisence (sp)

Linsey's Lesson of the Year!!

Aren't you all excited for this one!! I learned a very important lesson today that I thought I would share with everybody. Thus the red font!
It has been raining and snowing all night and day. I was getting stir crazy and I needed to return some items to the library. If anybody has ever been to the Ogden library you know that is in a scary neighborhood in the ghetto part of town. I was going to go last night but didn't want to go in the dark all alone so I decided I would go today and drag the kids around. Well Mark suggested I just lock the kids in the car and run in and drop the books and then run back out. It would only take a few seconds.
So that's what I decided to do. I took my automatic door locker off my keychain, left the car running and locked the kids in the car and ran into the library. When I came back to get into the car, the locker wouldn't unlock the car. I started to panic. Here I was in the middle of the ghetto part of Ogden, outside in the snow, locked out of my car with my kids and cell phone in the car. I couldn't run into the building and make a phone call and leave my kids out there all alone for a while, who knows what some crazy person might do while I am gone! So I try to get James to unroll his window but he is in the "no" stage and says no to anything I say, except treat and show. Finally somebody pulled up beside me in a not ghetto car and I asked to use her phone. Until I realize that I have no idea what Mark's work number is. So she offers to run in and get the phone number for the hospital. I get a hold of Mark and he comes to bail me out!

Lesson number 1: Do not lock your kids in the car while it is running thininking that it will unlock with your clicker! It won't!
Lesson number 2: If you see someone in peril, don't always assume that they have a cell phone and have already called for help! (I always think that.)

I hope that these lessons can help someone in the future from making the same mistake. And a little shout out to the lady who helped me!

St. George Marathon

Here is the one the only Bonnie Crook running in the St. George Marathon. It was on Oct. 6th! She finished with her best time (5 hours and 10 minutes)ever even with a knee injury! Way to go Mom!

Comfy Basement!

I guess the basement is pretty comfy now.... but you can judge for yourself by looking at these photos. Grandma is looking pretty cozy and Jake doesn't look like he's going any where.

This little TV looks a little pathetic. I think Grandma's house needs a nice big flat screen tv on the wall.
